I was born in Brooklyn New York In 1953 to humble beginnings. My dad was a WWII guy as was most of our family's friends. He was 6 foot eight and weighed about 300 lbs. Needless to say, I was always a very good boy. Mostly. Around the age of 5 we moved to Long Island. We moved every 3 or 4 years so I had a lot of best friends. In my later high school years, we settled in Long Beach. I loved it. In my senior year I took my boat to school because it was right on the bay and had docking facilities. How cool...

To put it plainly, I'm a clear thinking traditional American man. I know how to live and let live and I don't sweat the small stuff. I can make you laugh. I make people at stores laugh all the time (not just because the way I look). That was a small joke. Well, maybe not. I guess it would be a matter of opinion to be fair. I play 5 rock instruments at an advanced level and I also direct, produce, teach, design and engineer entire projects. I'm also a computer tech, graphics artist, fine wood craftsman, expert re-finisher, designer, builder, mechanic, and more. I've spent time in around 40 states and have been in a few other countries. I even spent 3 months on a 7 mile strip of sand in Jamaica 50 miles from the nearest electricity in the eighties. I'll have to tell ya about that sometime. It was paradise.

I am that rare mix of extroverted introvert--someone who can have just as much fun hanging out with a large group of friends as staying home and watching a movie or reading a good book. I work hard and play harder and will always give anything I am committed to 150%. Hi! My name is Dan... I'm currently a computer programmer for the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Previously, I held one of the coolest jobs on the planet - I was a television meteorologist for KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma. Weather has been a passion for me since I was twelve years old, and it's so exciting to have made it my career! I graduated from Cornell with a degree in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology. During college, I spent my time doing other cool jobs including a rock DJ for WVBR-FM, a computer camp instructor, and (my favorite) a roller coaster operator at Six Flags Great Adventure in my hometown of Jackson, New Jersey! Last year, I adopted a black lab/border collie puppy and named her Doppler... she is the love of my life!

This section is difficult for me. I'm not particularly comfortable with trying to "sell myself" and it's hard to find the right balance of "funny" and "serious". It's not that I'm utterly devoid of admirable qualities, it's just that I've always felt that if I have to tell someone what a great person I am, I might need to reevaluate my opinion of myself. Actions speak far louder than words...... Except Online.

The easiest way to do this is to tell you what other people say about me. Intelligent, kind, hard-working and enigmatic. All seem to come up at some point. Also, I have had a couple people describe me their acquaintances as "stubborn" as casually and matter-of-factly as if they were saying my that hair is brown or that my eyes usually match the color of my shirt. One of my college professors once described me as "A Renaissance Man" and I've been accused of that on a couple of occasions since. (Before your head is filled with terrible visions of men in tights insulting each other in bad English accents, please look up "renaissance man")

If it's the suit that makes the man I am still in the blastocyst stage.I dress myself and you can frequently tell. I like the usual things that people put in this section to make themselves sound "Outdoorsy" hiking, bicycling, downhill skiing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking etc. A couple years ago I built my own kayak and since then, my canoe has been getting kind of lonely... I've spent the last five years remodeling my house. It's been a huge learning experience. More than anything what I have learned is: Don't buy an old house!!!! That's something I guess.......... I'm a Scorpio, among other flaws... If that means anything to you. Who knows? I tend to keep an open mind.

I'm an autodidact, and "jack of all trades and master of none" I'm better than average at a lot of things but not great at many. I think anything that is worth doing, it's worth doing well and I give everything my best shot.

A few things that I am not, or do not do. I don't drink But, its fine if you do. I'll drive. I don't play video games, EVER. I don't watch television unless I'm at a friends place and they're watching. I have little or no interest in professional sports, football. baseball, basketball, hockey, ping-pong, curling etc. I mention this, not to be negative but, because one of the ways to find out what something is, is to find out all the things that it is not.

I love children especially at the infant stage but I'm not sure I should have any of my own. We live on a very small planet and its crowded already. As far as I know the earth isn't getting any bigger.

In our species unless altered by artificial factors like the repression of women, mating is almost invariably a process of male competition and female selection. My method of competing is a little unorthodox, a sort of weaver bird affair, in which I try to lead decent, stable life, build the best nest that I can and then wait for the female to notice.

What I look for in others is not perfection but rather complementary and compatible imperfections. We all need something from those around us. These gaps in our souls are not defects, just shapes in the pieces of the puzzle of humanity.

I'm 23. I just moved here from PA for a job after graduating college. Well, I love doing outside winter things... even if it's just walking around in Ithaca. During the summer, I love canoeing or bike-camping trips. One of the best ones I ever did was with last January in the Everglades (a big swamp that makes up the bottom third of Florida). It was 80 degrees, we were wearing t-shirts and shorts, eating lychee and avocadoes, padding along the coast of Florida, paddling past the mangrove trees as the fish jumped alongside our canoe. We found a beach island and slept in a tent under the stars. I absolutely LOVE that stuff. Secondly I love creative things and am always looking for such people to hang out with... Theatre, making up stupid little games (I really like little kids), word-plays, absurdities, arsty/indie movies, good coffee-shop discussions, live jazz, any of that stuff. Other than that, I'm open-minded, philosophical, and non-judgmental and get along the best with people who are also open-minded.

I run and run and run. Not away, but first to move and then to still. I don't like to drive on highways. A city is incomplete without an organic banana source. I took Introduction to Modern Dance in college, twice (because I wasn't promoted to Intermediate Modern Dance, i.e., I am a modern dance flunky). I keep my passport in the drawer of the bird desk where I write with a pencil on the backs of paper. I love public transportation. (and it's not a green thing, although that is nice too, it's a how amazing is it that you can go so many places while looking out the window and becoming anonymous thing). I love gummy candy, especially sea animal gummy candy.

Attending grad school at SUNY Cortland in Literacy. My goal has been to teach English, but recently I've decided I would like to pursuit a doctorate in Linguistics. I would maybe like to spend a few years as a reading specialist before returning to school for a PhD.

I moved to Ithaca a few years ago from Burlington Vermont. I am a glass artist and teacher. I also work with dogs and help out at the SPCA. A retired professor of Japanese culture, I am still involved in a humanities website.

My family is large, wonderful, and important to me. Once divorced and twice widowed, I have 10 children and stepchildren (one deceased) and 17 grandchildren, all of whom I enjoy visiting and socializing with. My main hobby, in addition to relating to many friends, and doing some volunteer activities, is travel, especially internationally. Last year I visited Kenya, the Aegean Sea, Nepal and Bhutan; this year I have been to the Antarctica, and will soon go to London and Mexico.

I read a lot, from mysteries to modern fiction; don't like to watch TV, except for the news; enjoy theatre, concerts, and good restaurants; love creating a garden (with help), and socialize quite often.

I am interested in many things which can be good and bad. I guess I'm reasonably good at most things but a master of almost nothing. I like to travel and cook and make things with my hands. I love photography and have an odd collection of old and new cameras. I'm interested in design..graphic design, interior design, the design of gadgets...but by trade and training, I am a scientist. I like to read but rarely get around to full novels. I like museums of all sorts and am always finding random things to learn more about--thank you internet! I even play video games at times though have rarely finished a game and have been known to enjoy a little pinball though I always shoot blindly.

I'm 19 i go to ithaca college, but i'm from NYC. I used to play soccer, now i snowboard and surf when i can. I love to travel and i've been to colombia, lived in argentina, traveled in guatemala, costa rica, belize etc.
I listen to all different types of music, my favorites are gogol bordello, black lips, passion pit and i really like gypsy/ spanish (salsa music.) so the gipsy kings are sick.

I'm kind of unconventional: brainy, sensual, equal parts silly and serious, ditsy and deep, physical and cerebral. I'm finishing a doctoral degree in mathematics, and this pursuit obviously occupies a lot of my time and energy. Outside of math however, Iâ??m all over the map: I enjoy literature, art, (generally foreign or independent) movies, jazz & blues, good food, good coffee and most of all good conversation! I tend to read and think a lot about philosophical and spiritual matters, and this general sensibility infuses most areas of my life in some way. I'm warm and compassionate, but also analytical and independent; shy at first, but absolutely revel in good conversation as I get to know someone better.

I would love to meet a man who is bright, intense, warm, independent-spirited, wacky, fun, deep, thoughtful and kind. Chemistry is crucial, but also fundamentally mysterious and as such I really do not have a particular physical type. I am pretty even-keeled. I try to treat people with kindness and not create enemies or discord. I work from home as an editor of academic books and journals. When I'm not working, I'm usually reading, researching, or thinking about philosophy. I tend to focus on idealist or Neoplatonist authors (e.g., Plotinus). Meditation practice is important to me; so is listening to classical music and attending live performances. I'm an amateur cellist--took it up 6 years ago. Not very easy but slight progress is rewarding. My eighteen-year-old daughter will be off to college next year and so a new phase begins.

I was on this site over the summer and it was a DISASTER. I was just trying to meet people without having to go to bunch of parties (not my thing) and instead I met a bunch of crazies. I only met one genuine guy but at the time I had thought he was the craziest of them all. So I guess I'm going to try again.

I love movies, art, psychology, travelling, baking - it's calming, but I usually give away what i make!, and relaxing with friends and family. I'm currently at Cornell University and would like to find someone in that area.

If I told you everything, you'd have nothing to talk to me about. I wouldn't want to deprive you of the fun of getting to know me..

I'm a pretty laid-back guy. I'm into all the usual stuff: Music, movies, books and all that. I try to keep a variety of things going on in my life so things don't get too repetitive. I can hold a conversation on a lot of topics and find it interesting when people can do the same.

I'm usually up for anything, and like to get out of my apartment as much as possible and hang out with people (or-people-watch).

I am pretty much never bored, there are too many things to see/do to ever run out. I'm pretty laid back and feel that there's no use getting worked up about things outside of my control.

The world is full of wonders and I hope to be able to see a fraction of what it has to offer.

I love science (I'm getting a PhD in engineering at Cornell). I read all sorts of books, too: mainly fantasy, with some manga thrown in. I'm a first-year, and I don't know many people yet here but I'm hoping to make some friends and spend some time with neat new people.

I recently completed my Masters Degree in Education at the University of Vermont, where I have just spent a year as a full time staff member. I loved Vermont so but have found my occupational calling here in Ithaca.

Some of the things I loved about Vermont were the commitment to local products. Burlington was just big enough to have everything one could need in a moment but small enough to get out of to the outdoors fast. But now, alas, I am in Ithaca. In so many ways it feels close to Burlington, but I feel like I was spoiled in Burlington and it is hard to cope with Ithaca. Which is where you come in, potentially. Help me find something unique to Ithaca that I wouldn't find in Burlington, whether thats a friendship, activities, or anything else!

Someone I'm looking for has the kind of fun and spontaneity to do just that, stay in or get out. And this both in a home sense and Burlington sense. I'm looking for someone with a spirit of adventure and a keen intellect.

But all of those things are the easy parts. The next piece is what I find to be the most challenging thing to find when dating. It's the spark in the conversation and the effortless transitions from topic to topic that just seem to be amazing in those first couple meetings.

Part of this conversational piece, and don't be daunted by this, stems from my work with students. It has really made me committed to social justice, diversity, and individuality. I'm not looking for someone who thinks exactly as I do, but is willing to have meaningful and authentic conversation on topics that range from life philosophies to the experiences different peoples (whether that be gender/race & ethnicity/ sexual orientation / gender expression / and so on). Open mindedness and a willingness to converse are the key pieces here.

That isn't to say that these are the only conversations that I enjoy, but there is something to be said about having conversations about deep social issues affecting our society. I'm looking for someone who can hold up the other end of conversations of that level, whether they be about books/films/or life.

Hi, I'm Ray.
I am a current college student (bio-engineering major) at Cornell University and an aspiring dentist. I like to do some artistically related activities on the side (sketching, some sculpturing, a bit story-writing), and I have some interests in folklore and mythology. I'm learning to sing at the moment -- I have a good voice but still need to work on it ^^;;. My favorite TV shows are psych, the Mentalist and Leverage. I also watch Japanese Animes and Asian dramas sometimes.
Friends classifies me as a funny, nice, easy-going and caring person who's a bit on the weird side. ^^ Good listener. Lots of friends always talk to me about things happening in their life. I'm a little slow to accept new things at times (same for food and social situations ^^;;), but once that barrier is crossed, it's all good.

My ideal other half would be a girl who is positive, lively, considerate, kind and romantic. She doesn't keep everything bottled up, and can give me some space when I need it. She appreciates me for who I am, and appreciates my point of view. Of course, it's a plus to be physically pretty but the inner qualities are the most essential.
