I try to make the best of my situation regardless of how bad it is, I'm always trying to look on the bright side of things, although I understand their hardships, etc. I can be pretty sarcastic but deep down I'm just a straight up nice and honest person. I was born in Brooklyn New York In 1953 to humble beginnings. My dad was a WWII guy as was most of our family's friends. He was 6 foot eight and weighed about 300 lbs. Needless to say, I was always a very good boy. Mostly. Around the age of 5 we moved to Long Island. We moved every 3 or 4 years so I had a lot of best friends. In my later high school years, we settled in Long Beach. I loved it. In my senior year I took my boat to school because it was right on the bay and had docking facilities. How cool...

To put it plainly, I'm a clear thinking traditional American man. I know how to live and let live and I don't sweat the small stuff. I can make you laugh. Previously, I held one of the coolest jobs on the planet - I was a television meteorologist for KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma. I'm just this guy. I bathe in gasoline, breathe nothing but ether, and scrawl messages in Sanskrit on my sleeping roommate. I'll drink a liter of vodka and tell you I'm sober while you're busy coaxing me off the hood of an SUV at a traffic light.

I can't fly, shoot lasers out of any orifice, or lift cars. I haven't witnessed a murder, rape, or grand theft. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't annoyed the Russian mafia lately. Accordingly, I have no need for a secret identity, and yet still want one dearly.

I love music, and try to play the bass as best a short white kid can. I've been involved in a few projects, and was recently "kicked out" of my band due to the distance between my home and college. I suspect they wanted a better looking bassist who could do all those things I mentioned above.

I enjoy going to shows, and love it even more if the bands are talented. I'll try to give everything a listen at least once, but end up liking music that holds emotion and power. I also tend to enjoy music that doesn't conform to typical roles and genres - that's probably just the musician in me jealous at the creativity of others, though.

I hate seeing my friends feel less than great, and will do whatever I can to help them through it. Life's too short to be a complete asshole, though there are plenty of times that sarcasm and spite will make a situation more humorous for the majority of the peoples involved.

I'm a vegan based on ethical ground. While I do not believe in eating animals, I'm not advocating the lifestyle for that sake only - that is to say, if you understand the issues and still decide to eat meat that's your choice and I respect it. However, culturally, as a factory farm nation, we've become far too detached from our food and have created an according mindset that it is a necessary and just practice - we are generally ignorant to the issues on either side regarding personal health, animal treatment, and environmental impact. Given our ability to supplement every nutrient with non-animal based products, coupled with the detrimental effects agricultural farming has on the environment, it seems high time to reevaluate our dietary choices, both individually and as a nation. This is what I urge - education, and the following choices - not my lifestyle per se.

After that diatribe, let's get back into some less heavy stuff:
I'm really interested in the whole body modification culture. I've got my ears gauged to 1", and an eyebrow ring. I plan on getting a bunch of tattoo work done (eventually), and can't promise anything on where I'll stop for piercings.

A retired professor of Japanese culture, I am still involved in a humanities website.

My family is large, wonderful, and important to me. Once divorced and twice widowed, I have 10 children and stepchildren (one deceased) and 17 grandchildren, all of whom I enjoy visiting and socializing with. My main hobby, in addition to relating to many friends, and doing some volunteer activities, is travel, especially internationally. Last year I visited Kenya, the Aegean Sea, Nepal and Bhutan; this year I have been to the Antarctica, and will soon go to London and Mexico.

I read a lot, from mysteries to modern fiction; don't like to watch TV, except for the news; enjoy theatre, concerts, and good restaurants; love creating a garden (with help), and socialize quite often.

Once upon a time, there was no color, because there was no light. And then, due to some currently unknown reason, light came into existence. This created a beautiful spectrum of color; notably for this summary, it created yellow and pink. Thus, you can see my hair and my favorite color.

I don't do well with direct questioning.

This section is difficult for me. I'm not particularly comfortable with trying to "sell myself" and it's hard to find the right balance of "funny" and "serious". It's not that I'm utterly devoid of admirable qualities, it's just that I've always felt that if I have to tell someone what a great person I am, I might need to reevaluate my opinion of myself. Actions speak far louder than words...... Except Online.

The easiest way to do this is to tell you what other people say about me. Intelligent, kind, hard-working and enigmatic. All seem to come up at some point. Also, I have had a couple people describe me their acquaintances as "stubborn" as casually and matter-of-factly as if they were saying my that hair is brown or that my eyes usually match the color of my shirt. One of my college professors once described me as "A Renaissance Man" and I've been accused of that on a couple of occasions since. (Before your head is filled with terrible visions of men in tights insulting each other in bad English accents, please look up "renaissance man")

If it's the suit that makes the man I am still in the blastocyst stage.I dress myself and you can frequently tell. I like the usual things that people put in this section to make themselves sound "Outdoorsy" hiking, bicycling, downhill skiing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking etc. A couple years ago I built my own kayak and since then, my canoe has been getting kind of lonely... I've spent the last five years remodeling my house. It's been a huge learning experience. More than anything what I have learned is: Don't buy an old house!!!! That's something I guess.......... I'm a Scorpio, among other flaws... If that means anything to you. Who knows? I tend to keep an open mind.

I'm an autodidact, and "jack of all trades and master of none" I'm better than average at a lot of things but not great at many. I think anything that is worth doing, it's worth doing well and I give everything my best shot.

A few things that I am not, or do not do. I don't drink But, its fine if you do. I'll drive. I don't play video games, EVER. I don't watch television unless I'm at a friends place and they're watching. I have little or no interest in professional sports, football. baseball, basketball, hockey, ping-pong, curling etc. I mention this, not to be negative but, because one of the ways to find out what something is, is to find out all the things that it is not.

I love children especially at the infant stage but I'm not sure I should have any of my own. We live on a very small planet and its crowded already. As far as I know the earth isn't getting any bigger.

In our species unless altered by artificial factors like the repression of women, mating is almost invariably a process of male competition and female selection. My method of competing is a little unorthodox, a sort of weaver bird affair, in which I try to lead decent, stable life, build the best nest that I can and then wait for the female to notice.

What I look for in others is not perfection but rather complementary and compatible imperfections. We all need something from those around us. These gaps in our souls are not defects, just shapes in the pieces of the puzzle of humanity.

I really like my creature comforts, but while my couch is comfy, and I have nice kitchen supplies, My house is a bit messy, sometimes really messy. I am not afraid of roughing it, well, as long as I have a comfortable bed.

I run and run and run. Not away, but first to move and then to still. I don't like to drive on highways. A city is incomplete without an organic banana source. I took Introduction to Modern Dance in college, twice (because I wasn't promoted to Intermediate Modern Dance, i.e., I am a modern dance flunky). I keep my passport in the drawer of the bird desk where I write with a pencil on the backs of paper. I love public transportation. (and it's not a green thing, although that is nice too, it's a how amazing is it that you can go so many places while looking out the window and becoming anonymous thing). I am a graduate student at Cornell working on my PhD in fiber and polymer science. I did my undergraduate in Chicago in chemical engineering. I like to be social, enjoy spending time with many different kinds of people, and I love to dance and party.

I'm a single thirty-something male remaking his life. I'm living in Ithaca and I'm trying to afford working and going back to school. I don't usually um, y'know...do this? Some say I have trouble opening up about myself, but it just isn't true. I just wouldn't want to give the wrong idea without you being able to see my hand movements and body language. Yes, waving gestures - that is quite important to my self-summary.

I guess you could say I'm a conversationalist; I never feel like I know someone until we've argued our views and shared our stories. I tend to be socially awkward with people until I see their sincerity. I might come across as confrontational, but it's hard to accept someone until I've seen them stand their ground. After that, my strongest friendships have been forged in philosophy debates over a beer.

I grew up in New Mexico before coming to Cornell for grad school, so I prefer being outdoors when I get the chance. Camping and hiking are some of my favorite activities. Ithaca has some great casual hikes, when it's warm, but I usually can't find the time to get out of town for some real outdoorsman stuff.

I love running and dancing. A good run always gives me the energy and determination to get everything else done. I prefer trail runs, but I'll take to roads if need be. I'm not a serious athlete or outdoors type, though; I have a strong elegant, get-dressed-up-night-on-the-town side. I like to express it in swing dancing, since swing can be classy without getting straight-laced and pretentious.

I'm an engineer and I love to build things. The creative act of bringing something new and useful into existence is immensely satisfying, especially if I've succeeded by accident ;)

I tend to devour literature, TV, and movies. Often, I'm drawn to the stories and characters, but really I enjoy the wry commentary on the human condition: absurdity and nonsense in the vein of Lewis Carroll or Monty Python. Life is hilarious once you get the joke ;)

Currently, I'm a third year veterinary student at Cornell University. San Francisco is my home - where I was born and raised and where I'll probably end up after graduating vet school. I did my undergraduate work at UC Berkeley where I got degrees in Music and Integrative Biology. I spent a 3-4 years working as a wildlife rehabilitator, a manufacturing chemist, a veterinary technician and then finally a research veterinary/environmental enrichment technician. Under the direction of some people that were near saints at this last job, I became extremely driven to improve standards of care for all types of captive animals.

I'm a shy guy who tends to come off as antisocial. I'm really quiet until I get to know people, I like to listen, sometimes too much. I have a degree in Physics, but hold nothing against people who are not really into science or don't have as high of an education. I'm a gamer, though not as much as when I was younger, I suppose it is the lack of time... I've recently gotten myself into photography. I'm in the process of becoming a vegetarian, I've gone a year without red meat, but chicken wings are doing me in. That being said, I have no issues with someone who likes steak and worships at the alter of bacon.
I absolutely love the Simpsons so if you want to get to know me, expect many quotes to be said, and many episodes to be watched...
I am rather sexual, but I don't think that is mutually exclusive with being a nice guy. I think a lot of girls have taken that as meaning all I'll want to do is get in your pants, and this is not at all true. I am very much looking for a real relationship as it seems that the only girls who do have any interest in me only want to get in my pants, and that is not what I want.
